Things which I couldn’t seem to get into the conversation
1) the farkas article – it seems like baal tashchit. Is it ethical if it is for my own good? Deep ecology talks about the “inherent worth of all living beings, regardless of their instrumental utility to human needs.” (Wikipedia) I didn’t get this sense out of his article.
2) Regarding the questions: “Is ethical kosher? Are they equate-able?”
We’ve been talking about process – how the process greatly affects whether something ends up kosher or not. If we choose to say that ethical issues are a part of the process, then we choose to include it as a part of Kashrut. The question is, do these ethical considerations (fair wages, environmental impact, the way in which the animals are treated, etc) truly effect/affect the process?
