In reviewing the reading for tomorrow, I was reminded of the LA-area initiative Peulat Sachir which seeks to entice area businesses (not just food related) to seek out an extra hekscher certifying their compliance with ethical employment practices in these areas: minimum wage, overtime, rest and meal breaks, workers compensation, leave policies and anti-discrimination protections. It's close to worker's rights version of Magen Tzedek from a modern Orthodox perspective.
I suppose there are never enough watch dogs for ethical practices. Is there a reason the Reformim should create such a authorizing body as well? Or, by eschewing kashrut as a governing principle, has the Reform Movement forfeited its "right" to certify social justice activities?
